Preliminary Procedures

– General Useful Command Structures along with card types/functionality.

Nortel TN-4XE Preliminary Testing

The Preliminary Procedures contained within the Nortel Commissioning Procedure document details the following:

· Measuring Rack Supplies.
· Rack Alarm Unit Tests.
· Fan Tray Tests.
· Logging On to the 4XE.
· Equipping/Un-equipping Cards.
· Determining Multiplexer Address & Software Status.
· Deleting Traffic Connections.
· Setting Port Mode Status of Applicable Cards.
· Optical Power Tests.
· Setting Synchronization Parameters.
· Disabling Quecc Comms Fail Alarm.
· Viewing Section & Path Trace Settings.
· Setting NE Date & Time.
· Configuring Initial Path Connections.

However, even though the testing procedures are well detailed within the document some of the command structures used are not as straightforward as they appeared.
Therefore, this part of the web site will show the actual commands we used and where applicable the results they produced for several of the procedures listed above.

Logging Onto the 4XE.

The PC hyper-terminal function was then used to establish the connection.
The settings used for the hyper-terminal connection were as follows:

FIELD SETTING
Bits/Sec 19200
Data bits 8
Parity bits None

Logging onto the 4XE was achieved by connecting a PC to the RS232 port of the Aggregate A card (located in Slot 6 of the 4XE).

Equipping/Unequipping Cards.

Unequip Card Commands:

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/
>> u s1
Warning: (3550) Traffic may be hit,
Are you sure? [Yes,No]:y
1, OK;

This unequiped the card in Slot 1.
The type of card did not have to be specified.

Equipping Card Commands:

Equip/, Unequip, Mode/, View, Ports_view, *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/
>> e 1t
10aa[10], *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/Equip/stm_1_Trib/
>> 10 s1
1, OK;

This equipped an STM1 Trib card in slot. 1

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/

>> e

stm_1_Trib[1t]/, stm_4_Agg[4a]/, 2M_trib[2m]/,
stm1e_140m_Dual_Trib/, Eos/,
eoW/, *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/Equip/
>>4a

20aa[20], 1550_21aa[21], *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Config/carDs/Equip/stm_4Agg/
>> 20 s8
1, OK;

This equipped a STM4-Agg Card in Slot 8

Determining Multiplexer Address & Software Status.

When you first log in the 4XE downloads to the PC display important information such as cards equipped, mux addresses etc.
An example of the information displayed is shown below with the location of the mux and software information highlighted.

Deleting Traffic Connections

TN-4XE//Config/ coNnections/

Connect, User_label, View/, aLl_disconnect,
Disconnect, *=up, ~=root
>>l

This will disconnect all connections set up and should be used with care !

TN-4XE//Config/ coNnections/
Connect, User_label, View/, aLl_disconnect,
Disconnect, *=up, ~=root

>>d s14-1 s6-1-j4-k243

This would disconnect the connection specified.

Setting Synchronization Parameters.

Configuring SETG Synchronization.

TN-4XE/Config/Sync_source/
>> h s6-1 s8-1
Warning: (3550) Traffic may be hit,
Are you sure? [Yes,No]:y
1, OK;

This is to set taking sync off Port 1 of the STM-4 agg card in slot 6,
with a standby source of the STM-4 agg card in slot 8,
with a final hold over option if both these sources fail.

TN-4XE/Config/Sync_source/
>> h none

Warning: (3550) Traffic may be hit,
Are you sure? [Yes,No]:y
1, OK;

This is is to set the 4XE in holdover mode
i.e. using its own internal clock to sync off.

Setting NE Date & Time.

TN-4XE/Maint/Operations/
>> c

Read, Align, *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Maint/Operations/Clock/

>> a 17/04/2002 18:39:00
1, OK;

Read, Align, *=up, ~=root

TN-4XE/Maint/Operations/Clock/
>> r

59, NE Time 591, NE_date=17/04/2002,NE_time=18:39:12
